Essay on Holi

Holi is the greatest festival in Hindu culture. It is the festival of color. The festival falls on the last full moon day of Falgun according to the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated sometime in March, usually in the latter half of the month. In this festival people of different caste, creeds and colors come together and put color on each other and tell the greeting of holi.

Holi is celebrated because it is believed that on this day honesty had won over dishonesty. There is the story behind it that there was one king named Hiranyakashipu. He had a son name Prahalad. He was the great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu was a very cruel king. He was told that his son will be reasoned for his death. He had made many plans to kill him. But all his plane was failed. So he called his sister named Holika to kill him. She was blessed with god Brahma that fire could not burn her. She invited Prahalad to sit on the fire with her. Prahalad agreed with her. But fire could not burn him despite him Holika was burned in the fire. From that day onwards Holi is celebrated.

In holi, all people of the different cast, colors come together and they colored themself in only one color that is the color of the love.

We do a lot of fun in the holi. First, I went to the house of one of my friends and I put color on him. Then we went to another friend's house and also put color on him. In this way, We form our team and started putting color on each other. We also go to the other society and put color on the children who live there.

In the evening we went each other house and put gulal on each other. Then we do dinner. Holi is the best festival. It teaches us to be united.
